This is a quote taken from an interview given to the Times newspaper by Dr James Colthurst in England, after his address to the inaugural joint congress between the Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of Surgeons.
What does S C E N A R stand for?
S - Self
C - Controlled
E - Energo
N - Neuro
A - Adaptive
R - Regulation
A sophisticated electronic device, using a biofeedback mechanism between the skin and the brain, SCENAR was created by Russian scientists (who were awarded the Order of Lenin, the Russian equivalent to a Nobel prize, for their work on the device) and doctors, as a portable, highly effective way for their Cosmonauts to keep healthy in space without using medication. SCENAR is used to treat a variety of different conditions. By stimulating the nervous system, it is able to stimulate the body to heal itself. The device sends out a series of electrical signals through the skin and then measures the response.
In Russia, some 600 practitioners currently use the SCENAR as their principal treatment instrument, with over 50,000 reported cases of individual use. A vast wealth of information on the SCENAR is available from research papers, clinical reports and training manuals.
SCENAR has been used on most types of disease or injury: circulatory, sensory, neurological, musculo-skeletal, gastro-intestinal, endocrine, immune and psychological disorders.
The SCENAR is also credited with vastly reducing recovery times after injury and surgery. It is being used by top sports people in the UK, including several of our Olympic athletes last year.
In Russian accident and emergency wards the SCENAR is used to aid recovery from cardiac arrest, massive trauma and coma. Both cancer and fracture patients have found more pain relief from the release of natural opioids after SCENAR treatment than from opiates externally administered.
In the UK SCENAR is currently being used by GPs and in several NHS hospital A & E departments and pain clinics and is the preferred treatment of many world class athletes ,sports professionals and entertainers.
It is licensed by the British Standards Institute and carries a CE mark for pain relief. SCENAR can be used very effectively alone or in conjuction with other therapies and conventional medicine. It is suitable for everyone, including children, babies and even animals, who generally respond very quickly.
How does SCENAR differ from other treatments?
SCENAR emits a different type of signal to other types of electro-stimulating devices, which enable it to access the very fine "C" nerve fibres of the body. These are the fibres which release the natural healing chemicals needed for pain relief and long term healing. Other treatments are only able to work on the more accessible A and B fibres, blocking the pain signal. Additionally, the signals from the SCENAR are delivered according to the response from the patient, changing rapidly, via a 'biofeedback' mechanism with the brain, giving the body no opportunity to adapt and therefore block them so they are no longer effective, as with other devices.
Because of its complex action, SCENAR therapy is able to take the body through a healing cycle to completion. Therefore, after a course of treatment is finished, it's not likely you would need more treatment for the same problem. With other therapies which may appear similar therefore, you may need ongoing, indefinite treatments to obtain similar results.
Treatment may be given locally, for acute conditions or recent injuries. It can also be administered to the whole body by working over the spine, abdomen or shoulder and head areas, according to your problem. For some appointments, therefore, you will be required to remove some clothing, but you will be offered towels or a robe to make you more comfortable during treatment. Due to the action of healing chemicals near the surface of the skin, you will be asked not to bath or shower for two hours before and after treatment and not to drink alcohol for 24 hours following a session of SCENAR.
The device is placed on the skin and will emit an electric impulse, the power level of which will be decided by you at the start of the session. It is not a painful experience and most people find it comfortable and relaxing.
It's unlike anything you are likely to have tried before and gets results where other treatments have failed, in the majority of cases.
The only reasons you would be unable to have Scenar treatment are if you have a pacemaker or other electronic implant in your body, if you are severely Epileptic, are severely mentally ill or under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.
No, it is extremely comfortable to receive and many people find it positively relaxing. Side effects tend to be improved sleep, better mood and balanced appetite!! Occasionally you may feel worse for a day or two after a session, as the brain learns to assimilate the information it is being given and old issues return. This is a normal response and should be seen as a very positive sign. It doesn't happen in all cases and is usually very short lived.
Recent injury and acute pain normally respond to treatment very quickly, often in seconds, so a minimum of appointments would be needed. For longer term, chronic conditions, you may need up to 10 treatments for best results, although often the course would be much shorter.
No, although you will be asked not to shower for 2 hours either side of treatment.
How is Scenar different?
TENS and similar devices are only designed to block pain, not to deal with the cause of it, as SCENAR does. They emit only one signal frequency, which the body quickly gets used to and blocks, therefore lessening/stopping the results. The electrical signals emitted by the SCENAR device change rapidly during treatment, according to the body's reaction and also by the therapist's intervention. This means that there is no possibility of building up an immunity to, or blocking the signal. It also enables a full healing cycle to be completed, making it unlikely, after you've had a full course, that you would need more treatment for the same condition.
